Trying to update the contact nickname for individual contacts via update multiple contacts doesn't work. You can go through the whole process, but in the end nothing will actually be changed in the contact records. However, organizations can be updated with this method.

Steps: Select individual contacts, update multiple contacts, select a profile with nickname, change nicknames as desired, submit.

Result: Process appears to complete as normal. No change to nicknames. Tested on 5.7.3 on Drupal and Drupal demo (5.12.alpha1)

Note that you can still change the nickname on the contact profile.

It's a very small thing, but can be a bit frustrating because there is no error, so you don't know that your changes haven't taken effect. Does this seems like a bug that should be reported?

I'd say file a bug. One thing I notice is that it DOES work if the nickname was blank before, but fails to update previously non-blank nicknames. – Demerit Feb 11 at 4:01

We had something similar happening with importing people's employer. No error on the screen and it would tell you everything imported. But then you'd go into the records and it hadn't. Upgraded to 5.9.0 and the problem stopped. – Jenni Simonis Feb 11 at 4:56
  • Interesting. I can confirm the nickname batch update works fine on a 5.9.0 install, even though the public demo where it fails is newer. – Demerit Feb 11 at 6:29
  • Yes, agreed that it does update blank nicknames, just non-blank ones. I can confirm this doesn't work on 5.7.3, 5.10, and 5.12.alpha1. – Lars SG Feb 11 at 17:23
