I'm tasked with migrating a CiviCRM database from a Drupal 7 site to a Drupal 8 site. So far there's 2 approaches I've thought of. Copy the whole DB as standard and import it into the new D8 site. I've tried this and it didn't appear to break anything (apart from missing extensions etc), albeit a bit unstable, but nothing that could be fixed (CSS, path resets etc).

The other approach I haven't yet tried is a regular CiviCRM install on the D8 site and using the user interface to import CSV exports from the D7 site.

Edit: I've seen these Where is the documentation for installing CiviCRM with Drupal 8 or for upgrading a Drupal 7 system with Civi to Drupal 8 and Can I upgrade a drupal 7 + civi site to drupal 8? but I feel they're not applicable as such in my case.

My question is, does anybody have any tips for this? Anybody that's done this before that has any suggestions? I've looked around but didn't find anything that was precisely migrating from D7 to D8.

  • The one you've linked to civicrm.stackexchange.com/questions/28655/… is more or less the first approach you described, and as you've noted there's paths and other items that need fixing up. You'll also want to copy over settings from civicrm.settings.php. – Demerit Sep 7 '20 at 15:01
