Have you considered using the search builder to create a smart group of contributors who have given to financial types not in those five types? Then you could send an email to that group when needed.

Do you mean the code that uses the template? If so, look at CRM/Contribute/BAO/ContributionPage.php and look for 'contribution_online_receipt' which is the template name for 'Contributions - Receipt (on-line)'. Unless you want to pass different data to the template, you should just need to edit the template at Administer > Communications > Message ...

I narrowed this down to one particular contribution page. Others were working as expected. I don't know what the problem was, but I worked around it by simply creating a replacement for that contribution page. Thanks to everyone who gave this some thought.

This issue is reported at https://lab.civicrm.org/dev/core/-/issues/1603 and there was a fix merged into 5.27 which is scheduled to be out today, unfortunately the fix was reverted since it created regression bug.
