If its a lot of people you have in a spreadsheet, I'd export all the conatcts with contact ids to a spreadsheet and than match these the the people on your list. Delete the rest of the conatacts from the spreadsheet. Then import those contacts as an update (not changing anything), ...


It depends which searches you are talking about, but you can configure a Profile for displaying contact search results at Administer > Customize Data & Screens > Search Preferences > Default Contact Search Profile or at the top of an Advanced Search page. You might also want to investigate SearchKit and Form Builder.


If you mean to display the search result columns to display custom fields, than you can create a profile to include all the fields to include as column(check the result column checkbox while adding the field in profile). Set the 'Default Contact Search Profile' in search preference setting.(Administer >> Search Preferences >> Search Preference).


The profiles are only used for contact searches. Advanced Search lets you select a profile but you can also change the default profile (Administer > Customize Data and Screens > Search Preferences > Default Contact Search Profile) and that will change the results displayed from a simple search.
